PS4 is getting a remastered version of PS2 Cult Classic this summer

A new version of the PS2 classic will be launching this summer, and it’s no surprise that the remake is launching via PS4. What’s surprising is that it’s not launching via PS5, but it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch. Fortunately, for PlayStation fans who have switched from PS4 to PS5, the game will be playable on the latter via backwards compatibility. Why the game isn’t coming natively to PS5, we don’t know, but it’s possible that the port will be saved for a post-launch tag.

As for the game in question, it’s dubbed Grimoire one more time It is a modified version of Grimoire, the 2007 real-time strategy game from Vanillaware, the developer behind the highest-rated Nintendo Switch game of the year so far. Published by Nippon Ichi Software or Koei depending on the region, Grimoire It was a PS2 exclusive when it was released and years later PS2 is still the only platform to play on. Upon release, the game had a score of 79 on Metacritic, which is far from Metacritic’s greatest score, however, over time, it became known as a cult classic among hardcore PlayStation fans.

As for the remaster, it will be released on July 28, but only in Japan. It’s safe to assume that the game will be coming west at some point, but that has yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, the converter is handled by the aforementioned Nippon Ichi Software and Vanillaware. In other words, the original limbs are back.

The re-release was specifically designed as an “Enhanced Enhancer” and comes with new gameplay systems, improved graphics, a fast-forward feature, a mid-battle save function, a new “Hard” difficulty level, a new skill tree, and gallery mode. What this is not a remake. The game still looks old, but it got rid of some PS2 dust.
